How Can We Make Open Source Software Easier for Non Profits to Use?
(Bob Goodman - www.bobgoodman.net, Katrin Verclas of Aspiration, and Dan Collis
Puro, of Mass Law Reform Institute)
Much of the open source software now available to nonprofits still requires an
enormous amount of technical expertise to install or use. Fortunately, OSS advocates
are recognizing and addressing this problem. Bob Goodman (www.bobgoodman.net)
will present some principles for enhancing software usability. He will present examples
and discuss some interface strategies used in commercial software that could increase
adoption by non-profit users. Dan Collis Puro will present some concrete examples,
looking at open source email list managers like Sympa and Mailman. Katrin Verclas
will address what Aspiration and other allied organizations are doing to address this
problem.
